Admittedly he’s bleeding in that shot I did mostly for dramatic effect though. Whether or not it’s blood or ketchup isn’t really relevant to anything but spaghetti sauce sounds right, haha. I ALWAYS GET STUCK ON THINKING ABOUT THIS IN GAME TERMS SORRY Normally Papyrus poofs into dust, and Sans bleeds and limps off before poofing, but if their positions were reversed, then would Sans be the one who poofs, while Papyrus bleeds and limps away? Would Papyrus losing his head in the last battle have the same visceral horror to it as seeing Sans suddenly gush blood everywhere? In this variant version of Undertale, is the normal version of the run even possible? If the alternate Papyrus version is the only way to do things in this theoretical game, then there are a lot of beats that Papyrus has to hit in some way to have the same narrative impact as Sans. It also depends on how Sans dies in the Papyrus variant of the run.

In that case Sans bleeding wouldn’t really be a unique trait of his, it’d be a visual statement for that specific moment. Toriel for example seems to be bleeding from her mouth when you strike her down in the murder run (or attack her after she spares you on a normal one), but it’s black to match with the consistent monochrome color scheme up to that point. It may well be that other monsters were bleeding, but you never saw the true color of it for whatever reason. There’s absolutely no red blood in the game except for that one moment, and I don’t think that’s an accident. It even follows the same pattern as the battle with Asriel or Flowey, in that it’s a sudden burst of true color after so many black and white sprites. I dunno, it depends! You could think of the sudden red of Sans’ blood as a symbolic thing - a shocking moment of true gore when you’ve achieved the absolute depths of cruelty.
